About Terese Weinstein Katz,
MFT, PhD
I believe it’s crucial for us all to understand ourselves, including how and why our struggles developed. This can open the door to greater self-compassion, better self-care, and new choices. At the same time, I know that insight and understanding often don’t help enough with the agony of longstanding emotional pain or addictive behaviors.
So, while my education immersed me in psychodynamic, psychosocial and family systems theories, and I consider problems though these lenses, I also integrate other approaches to change where helpful. I have additional training in cognitive-behavioral therapy, stress management, somatic and mindfulness practice. I am additionally a certified breathwork facilitator. I often teach breathing techniques for anxiety reduction. In a separate practice, also, I offer conscious connected breathwork journeys, which can be categorized as a “non-drug psychedelic” modality.
I will assist you in understanding what’s going on and what might be most helpful or needed. I know the many ways that our world and our lives can complicate our best efforts and will help you find your way. Currently I am still seeing people remotely. I do plan to return to a hybrid practice in the greater New York area, with some in-person availability.
